Welcome to A2EP’s renewable heat selection tool.

This tool is designed to help demystify the various technologies available to decarbonise heating systems.

The tool has been developed utilising insights from over 50 feasibility studies, dozens of process installations, decades of process engineering experience and more than 20 industry consultations. Every site is different so the best solution for each site will depend in site conditions. The lowest cost decarbonisation solution requires working through a methodology of data collection, energy efficiency, modelling and risk assessments to optimise the capital and operational costs.

This tool will help guide you through each step of the methodology and hopefully help you to take the next steps of engaging a consultant or technology provider to progress your decarbonisation journey.

Our top 5 tips for the journey:

• Don’t do a ‘like for like’ project. Your current heating solution is probably oversized. Understand your heating demand and energy efficiency options to reduce the capital and operating costs of the new solution.
• Invest in data. A $20,000 investment in metering could help right size the new equipment and save 10 X the investment made in metering.
• Every site is different and your site conditions need to be considered when designing so use an energy consultant.
• Monetise non-energy benefits.
• Consider hybrid solutions – you don’t need to decarbonise all heating at once. Using the existing gas fired boiler for a few days per year to compliment a heat pump solution may reduce the capital cost by >50%.
